Porirua Central Wastewater Retention Tank

The Project

Work is currently underway on the significant Porirua Central Wastewater Tank infrastructure project to address the issue of wastewater overflowing into Porirua Stream and Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour.

This project is crucial in ensuring a healthier harbour and coastal environment by reducing the amount of untreated wastewater that enters the network. The overflows occur when heavy rainfall causes an excess of water to flow through the pipes, surpassing their capacity. In order to combat this problem, we are constructing a storage tank in central Porirua. This tank will play a vital role in preventing wastewater from overflowing into the stream and harbour, ultimately improving the overall water quality in the area.

The Requirement

With the retention tank being built between the main railway line, SH1 and major arterial road network keeping the roads clean was a must. There was also a requirement for treating the construction site water.

The Solution

Condor supplied a MobyDick 400B Wheel Wash System due to it having a full 4 metre wash platform providing a full tyre rotation and an optimum wash result.

The system has a full 20mᶟ water recycling tank meaning minimal top up water was required.

A Condor XXL Water Treatment System was also specified and supplied to ensure the site water met compliance before being discharged to the stormwater network.
